Alison came over to take some newborn photos (a good excuse for me to get out of my sweats and put on a pretty dress) and we thought it would be fun to photograph our “Scandinavian nursery” as well and share it with all of the mamas-to-be.
If you decide to be surprised about the gender of your baby, decorating a nursery can be quite difficult. After scouring the internet for some inspiration for I found myself drawn to the simplicity of Scandinavian nursery decor. What is Scandinavian decor, you ask? Think Ikea – simple, minimal, and functional. I knew that if I used this style as a base for the room I could add personality once the baby came.
For our nursery I tried to create a balance between natural wood elements and graphic black, white and grey patterns. These neutral colors make it easy to add a pop of color to liven the room. The crib was a hand-me-down from my sister and the changing table was a dry sink we found at a local consignment store. The glider and other decor were mostly gifts I received at my baby shower. We also added some DIY moments to complete the room.
One of my sisters knew the gender of the baby. Back story: she was desperate to know so we had the doctor write down the gender and gave her the envelope. And no, she didn’t leak! Lindsey did the same for one of her babies as well. The sister who knew the gender asked me to pick a boy and a girl themed art piece to gift me once the baby came. There were a few ways I could have decorated the room once our baby girl arrived, but for now the hot pink accents are perfect.
